Beware bogus 'animal wardens' going door to door

We urge residents to report suspicious individuals going door to door, posingDoorstep seller knocking as council animal wardens.

October 6th, 2022

A Police Community Support Officer from Llanedeyrn has been conatcted by a local resident, reporting a man wearing a dog warden uniform with 'Cardiff dog warden' printed on the shirt. The man asked her to see her dog. Thankfully, she asked to see ID and the man left.

We can confirm that our animal wardens did not visit the resident. We always carry ID and are obliged to show ID if requested.

If anyone visits you at your home, requesting to see your dog, we urge you to inform the individual that you will contact the council's animal health team to confirm the identity of the visitor. You can contact us on 0300 123 6696 to check the identity of the individual.

If any have received a similar visit, please South Wales Police on 101 or Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133. Information sent to both organisations will result in our Safeguarding and Animal Health teams being notified of the matter.
