Training services we offer

All of our Training courses are delivered by our experienced trainers, many of whom are Officers working within Trading Standards or Environmental Health and who are all experts in their fields.

We offer both accredited training Qualifications and non-accredited training, including bespoke training for groups, that can be tailored to meet your needs. We are an accredited Training Centre with Highfields and the Royal Society for Public Health. 

Highfield Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering (RQF)

Prepares learners for employment, or to support a current position within a low-risk role, where there is an element of food handling.

Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (RQF)

For those working in a catering environment who are responsible for handling food.

Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Catering (RQF)

This qualification is aimed at those working in the catering industry who are at, or wish to progress to, a higher or supervisory level

Highfield Level 2 Award in HACCP for Catering (RQF)

Aimed at those working in a food catering environment and other food handlers.

Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Allergen Awareness and Control in Catering (RQF)

For food handlers and other staff involved in food preparation and service who work within the catering industry or who wish to do so.

RSPH Level Two Award in Infection Prevention and Control for Special Procedures Practitioners

Covers the principles of infection control through application of the ‘chain of infection’ and the ‘standard infection control precautions’ for Special Procedures Practitioners either employed, self-employed or as practitioners managing a business.

Highfield Level 2 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace (RQF)

Provides learners with an understanding of the benefits of good health and safety, steps to risk assessment and how to reduce accidents, near misses and ill-health

How are our training courses delivered?

We offer training delivery both face-to-face and online, so there is an option to suit everyone. Our face to face training takes place in Bridgend, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and we can also deliver training at your business premise, if you have a group of staff that you wish to train. Please contact us to discuss your requirements for group training.

Face-to-face Training - Safety First

The safety of our trainers and our course delegates is of paramount importance to us at Shared Regulatory Services. We therefore have strict protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of everyone attending our training. Please do not make any travel or accommodation arrangements to attend our courses until the course has been confirmed as going ahead, as they are currently subject to change. 

Online Training and Assessment

Online TrainingNot all of our training courses are offered online. Any online courses we offer will be indicated on the relevant training page in the course dates an will say 'online' next to them.

If we don’t currently offer a course online but you would be interested in attending the course if we did offer it online, please do let us know.

If you book onto one of our accredited online qualifications then you will need to have the following equipment, to be able to take the e-assessment at the end of the training course:

 

  • A laptop / computer / tablet or similar with a microphone
  • A web cam built into your computer / tablet. or a separate web cam
  • A smart phone
  • Access to the internet (you will need Google Chrome, which is free to download, to access our courses)

You will be talked through the process and have a clear video to follow, to help set your equipment up ready for the assessment. For more information about the specific equipment you need, please see Highfield’s Frequently Asked Questions here.

Your e-assessment will be booked for you on the same day as your training course, so you can complete it after our training has been delivered. Please look at the example timetables provided on our Qualification pages for an approximate time. If this time is not suitable, please contact us to discuss your options before you book an online course with us.  

Course Costs

The cost for each of our Qualifications are listed on the Qualification pages, which you can find below. There is an additional cost for online accredited courses, as the e-assessment is remotely invigilated by our awarding body. Full details can be found in on the Qualification pages below.

Booking and Payment

If you would like to book a place on one or more of our courses, please complete our booking form and email it to training-srswales@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk. Once we have received your email we will contact you to arrange payment for the course. Full payment needs to be made before attending the course.   

Certificates

All prices are inclusive of an e-certificate, which will be emailed to you as soon as possible after completing the course, if you have achieved the Qualification. This will be sent to the email address you provided on your booking form, so please ensure it is correct. 

Training appeals procedure

This procedure covers the process for raising appeals against an academic decision that has been made.  Should a learner feel that proper process has not been followed or that the academic decision was not made in accordance with the regulations of the programme of learning then they may appeal.
